I have come to learn that this time of year seems to bring a lot sadness and negative feelings for many people. The day to day thoughts of loneliness and not having enough money for things seem to take over every inch of our brains! During this time, it seems the enemy turns our thoughts into a playground, as we are prepping for the holiday season, or in the midst of hustle and bustle of the holiday season. And since we become so preoccupied or distracted from the hassle of the season, we forget the importance of self-care, and keeping ourselves focused around this time of year. And sadly, we also forget that the holiday season truly is about our Savior anyway! I went to church this past Sunday, and my pastor (Pastor C. Jerome Lynch-Mary Goss Baptist Church) laid down this truth so beautifully! The holiday season is supposed to bring out the best in us all-"good will to men." So why do we let it bring out the worse in us? Why do we become so consumed with worldly matters and worldly demands, instead of becoming so consumed with the love of God? As the holidays approach, we should be so filled with the "holiday spirit." So why do we let our holiday spirit become so ravaged by our negative holiday emotions and behaviors?

When you think about it, the act of God's love showed so much selflessness in the sacrifice He made for us! Yet, we have become so selfish, and could not care less (almost) of what He did for us on Christmas! How did we get so far off from the true meaning of the holidays? Let us get back to the place where we are filled with joy and peace, and willing to serve those in need! Let us get back to the place where our very spirit speaks for us, before we even say a word! Let us get back to the mindset of not allowing the holidays to bring out the absolute worst in us, but the very best in us instead! Let us get back to that place where we keep our minds and our eyes on Christ! Let us choose to be truly filled with holiday cheer, constant joy and peace, and the absolute goodness of God! Let us make it a point this year, to make this holiday season truly about who it should be about, and not about our own problems and sad stories! Let us turn our eyes back to God, and allow Him to fill us up with all the things that He has already ordained for us this season, and every other season that we may enter in this life!
