It Is So Important to Heal!!!!

"Be merciful to me Lord, for I am in distress: my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief. But I trust in you, Lord; I say, "You are my God. My times are in your hands" (Psalm 31:9, 14-15). I recently had an interesting conversation with the class that I teach on the importance of healing. I was explaining what I have learned in my own journey to healing. We do not realize what we do to or bring upon ourselves, when we refuse to heal. One student said that," It hurts to heal." I explained to this student, that it does indeed, "hurt to heal"; but, when we refuse to heal, we simply place more hindrances on ourselves. We continue to face setbacks in personal and spiritual growth, and, we miss out on the many blessings of God! So if all of this is a part of refusing to heal, is it really worth it to stay unhealed? Why do we work so hard at remaining unhealed, than we do at becoming whole (after healing)? Is this really a comfort zone for people? As toxic as it sounds, I honestly think that it is. I say this because I know who I was before I chose to pursue healing, and chose to become healed. In our wanting to stay in the place of hurt and brokenness, we cause so much more internal damage to/in ourselves! And after our internal damage has reached a point of overflowing, we begin to wear our damage externally!

When we don't heal, the wounds and damage come out in other areas of our lives. In working in behavioral health for 5 years, I can't tell you of the number of patients I encountered who began suffering with numerous behavioral issues, simply because of unhealed trauma. If people knew the devastating results that come from negative emotions, circumstances, etc., that they refused to heal from, I really feel that they would do a much better job at healing. Their lifestyles would change, their attitudes and behaviors would change, their overall demeanor would change! I can tell you that mine certainly did! Let's not turn the original picture that God had for us and for our lives, into an ugly mark that we have created for ourselves! Let us hold on to the initial picture He had ordained for us, in the very beginning! "To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteous, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified '(Isaiah 61:3).
