Prayer is an essential part of the Christian life. It is fundamental to the Christian faith. I heard Dr. Tony Evans say it best, "Prayer is a lifestyle, not an event". As a matter of fact, God made it clear just how important prayer is to Him. He said, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you". (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) He wants us to engage in prayer! He wants that communication with us! Prayer is not only for our well-being as Christians; but it is also the gateway of communication with God. Can you imagine it? Someone so majestic in every way wants to be in communication with me! He wants to fellowship with me!
The very one who created heaven and Earth-and me-wants to communicate with me! That is such an awesome thought to me! To add, He even provided a way for me to do so! Prayer!
I can honestly say-for me-prayer is pretty important as a Christian. I cannot even begin to name the many times that I have battled with certain demons in my life, and was unable to handle them on my own. I cannot even count how many trials and tribulations that I have faced in this life. These trials and tribulations had weakened me so much until, I KNEW I would NEVER get through any of it on my own. So, what did I do in the face of adversity? I PRAYED! It was during these times that I truly learned just how effective and powerful prayer was. As a matter of fact, it was because of the adversities that I have faced, that I have come to realize that there is simply no Christian life without prayer. Prayer is a way of seeking and asking Christ for what I may need in this life-whether the need be physical, mental, emotional, or even spiritual. Prayer is a way of simply thanking God for the many blessings that He has bestowed upon me. Prayer is a way of seeking direction/instruction for what God has for me, in this life. Most importantly, prayer is the means of communicating with my God! He had been so good to me that I simply could not imagine not praying to Him (thanking Him, asking for guidance, etc).
Everyone knows life can be so hard! But, it doesn't have to be, if we simply utilize the very tools that He has given to us. In prayer, we see that God becomes our comfort, our joy, our peace, etc. He becomes our family, our friend, our counselor, our mentor, our financial partner, etc.,or simply-Our God! There are so many blessings and gifts that we are given in and through prayer! So, why not use the very system to obtain all of these things in Christ? After all, it was the way He had ordained it to be anyway!
